Stance and Balance: Finding Your Rear-Leg Anchor
ProSwing App Metric: Mass Centroid Trajectory (Rear-Leg Load)
How the move works
You anchor every good swing on the rear leg. You set the feet a touch wider than the shoulders. You keep the chest tall.
You pinch the rear knee inward until you feel weight settle over the inside arch of the rear foot. You wind the rear hip back into the glute socket and you carry 60 to 70 percent of your mass over the back heel and glute. That coil gives the hips a fixed axis to turn around.
Youth cue: Tetherball pole
You screw your back foot into the ground like a tetherball pole. You turn around that pole. The pole never tips over.
High school and college read
You read Mass Centroid Trajectory across the load phase. You hold the centroid line over the rear foot through leg lift. Drift past center flags a soft anchor.
Parent and coach setup
You start on flat ground with laced shoes and no bat. You watch the head from the side. You stop the rep when the head slides forward or backward.
Step-by-Step Execution
- Set the base: You set up with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width, weight balanced evenly.
- Pinch the rear knee: You pinch the rear knee inward over the inside arch of the rear foot to ground the back leg.
- Wind the rear hip: You wind the rear hip backward into the rear glute socket, shifting 60 to 70 percent of your mass over the back heel and glute.
- Lift soft: You lift the lead leg softly while holding full posture stability over the back leg without leaning backward or lunging forward.
Common Mistakes and Fixes
| Flaw | HLP Fix |
|---|---|
| Knees bow out, weight rides the outer foot | You pinch the rear knee inward and you press the inside arch flat. |
| Chest leans back when the lead leg lifts | You keep the head centered and you hold the chest tall over the rear hip. |
| Mass slides forward before stride | You keep 60 to 70 percent of your mass back until the toe lands. |
| Lead leg kicks high and fast | You lift the lead leg soft and low and you freeze the head in place. |
ProSwing App Callout
You mount your phone on a tripod at waist level, side-profile view from the open side. You record 5 leg lifts with no swing. You open the skeleton overlay in ProSwing Studio and you read Mass Centroid Trajectory. You pass when the centroid line holds over the rear foot from setup through leg lift. You re-pin the rear knee when the line slides past center.
